HOW CAN AN AYURVEDIC DIET HELP YOU KEEP YOUR COOL THIS SUMMER?
Hot. Dry. Scorching. It’s summer, embarking the start of the Pitta season. What is Pitta? As per Ayurveda, hot and dry climates affect our bodily constitution and cause an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which is one of the biological energies present in the human body. An Ayurvedic diet can help pacify Pitta and keep you uber-cool this summer, keeping various illnesses at bay.
Eat Fruits & Veggies with High Water Content
Get relief from the heat by consuming foods that have high water content and are Pitta-pacifying, such as watermelons, pears, apples, cucumbers, broccoli, coconuts, and mangoes. Make sure that the fruits and vegetables are fresh and seasonal and wash them properly before consumption. Avoid heat-inducing vegetables such as carrots, beets, radishes, and spinach that are difficult to digest.
Seasonal fruits such as mangoes, watermelons, & apples can pacify Pitta dosha & regulate body temperature.
Consume Light, Refreshing Drinks
Hot beverages upset the Pitta dosha - instead, opt for homemade buttermilk, fruit-infused waters, cooling herbal teas, and natural coconut water. Avoid ice-cold temperature and drink natural beverages to prevent heat strokes, flush out toxins, and keep skin hydrated! You should also consume foods that keep your body cool - natural yogurt, cottage cheese, and mint.
Fruit-infused waters are great for detoxing; cool as a cucumber is an idiom for a reason!
Use Cooling Spices While Cooking
Have light, small, and digestible meals during summers to keep bacterial infections and digestive issues at bay. Use Ayurveda-favored spices such as coriander, mint, parsley, basil, fennel, and cilantro as they help induce a cooling effect. Avoid heating spices such as chili powder and mustard seeds. Drink ample water to aid digestion and avoid dehydration.
Sprinkle fresh coriander over your meals to induce a cool sensation; use light spices to flavor your food.
Apart from this, use cooling oils such as Coconut Oil to massage your limbs and stay moisturized. In order to shield your skin from damage and heating up, use natural Aloe Vera Gel or an organic moisturizer at all times.
Embrace Ayurveda and keep your Pitta in check - banish summer woes away!
